Hi all

Been busy with the 145 and had some 'life' experiences so couldn't post for a while. Quick update: I garaged the 145 QV last April 2014 to powder coat the subframes but then it turned into a project and one thing led to another. Lol!

Hopefully someone will find some of the pics interesting for their own projects maybe. The pics I'm posting are a reduced number. If anyone wants to see more pics of a specific part of the car that maybe you cannot find on this forum let me know as the car is still dismantled and I can take more pics.

The car is on axle stands. Wheels, exhaust and hand brake cables are detached.

Enjoy..

These were 'un-doable'..!

The bolt arrowed in red (I didn't see this was preventing the gearbox mount from coming off)

The gearshift is also held in place by this one bolt inside.

That pesky bolt

Make sure to label and bag ever single nut and bolt!! Take lots of photos too as these will help reassembling at some distant future date..

To be continued..

If I remember it was a 156 mount. It was a cut and shut job. I just used conventional self-tapping screws. What did you use on yours?

I do like the Alfa side placement for reg plate.

Thinking of getting another front bumper without the vent holes.

What I did last May!

Removal of petrol tank and rear sub-frame and loads of other stuff.

Attached Image

Brake line inspection

Attached Image

Attached Image

Fuel filter

Attached Image

Fuel tank motor cover

Attached Image

Fuel tank pipes

Attached Image

Siphoning the petrol

Attached Image

Lowering of the petrol tank

Attached Image

Fiddly to get the pipes out the way

Attached Image

The blue one was a b**ger

Attached Image

The petrol tank out the way and the rear sub-frame is next..

Attached Image

Unclipping bits and bobs

Attached Image

Draining brake fluid

Attached Image

The first sheared bolt.. Do not attempt to unbolt a 20 year old ABS sensor - or even crazier, attempt to take one out. See later on. Lol!

Attached Image

Brake lines disconnected (without having to be 'cut' off!)

Attached Image

OMG.. the rear brake compensator..

Attached Image

The rear subframe lowered after dowsing the four subframe bolts in WD40 for a week and undoing with a 4 ft breaker bar very sloooowly..

Attached Image

Attached Image

The rear subframe bolts were in good nick thread wise as were the front sub-frame bolts. Only the bolt heads were rusty.

Attached Image

rear compensator union

Attached Image

rear subframe supported by couple of axle stands

Attached Image

Th rear sub-frame old rubber mounts (shot to bits!)

Attached Image

Don't try this at home, if your garage is your home like mine
ABS sensor

Attached Image

A very useful swarf attractor now. Lesson learn: leave ABS sensors alone ohmy.gif

Yes. It's some American company. It's a flexible piece of rubber that does the job better than expected.

Even Picasso stole ideas - not that I'm anythin other than a p**s artist. Wait till I get the Team Dynamics on!!

Seriously, you did a great job smoothing the piping on the ph2 bumpers.

I think the team dynamics was the better wheel. I've used on all the alfa's I've had
the piping is already there it was making the space up where the number plate was. Just not shore about the round vents on the front before they go to paint !

A question for anyone who can provide an answer: I've purchased some FK lowered springs and some lowered Technik German front struts. Will I still be able to use the standard front strut bump stops or will I have to shorten them??

Also, will it affect camber and has anyone used those camber bolts on ebay?

Cheers

Cheers mate.

When you say the standard stuff do you mean the bump stops or the strut and springs as standard too. I can't remember whether you and yell 145 used lowered struts and springs.

I was looking at the struts and by the time I get the spring compressed there is hardly gonna be much travel on the strut. I take it the springs are quite stiff and I'll get progressive damping.

That's good. I purchased the FK 30-40mm lowered springs and Technix struts from Germany. I'm going to order the front bump stops now:
https://www.shop4parts.co.uk/originalbirth/...;keywords=50885.

Yes, I got some Supaflex ARB drop link bushes too. They look cool in blue.

Definitely! The AZs(I think they were) were nice but shape and finish on the Pro races a class above. It just looks better. If I had to have a 2nd set it would be a set of TD pro race 1.2s.

Cheers! I think when it's finished the underside of the car will be miles better than what you'll see on top. Also, I figured by the time I've finished I'll have had a new car with all the replaced parts.

As you can see red. I painted these last year but since then I've had a change of mind. If I had the chance again I'd paint them yellow. Yellow seems to be the colour of calipers at the moment?
