Has anyone got an external temperature sensor..?

I am sure it is listed in the index of the owners' manual- and even has a page number. But there is no mention of it, within the text.

I can't see where the display would be- unless the odometer would change for a few seconds- but I suspect this is an EU market thing..?

as far as I know there was no such feature from factory to display outside temperature in 145/146. not sure about 155. 164 displays outside temperature on climate control if I remember well.

from what I see looking into wiring diagrams on 145/146 external temperature sensor is fitted when your climate control has "AUTO" function on blower speed control. sensor is located in passenger mirror bottom (EU spec cars), so UK spec should be also in mirror just not sure which one wink.gif
it's connected to climate control unit and that's it. there's no connection to instrument cluster neither from sensor nor climate control unit.

all the control units which are in car and can be hooked up to diagnostic tester (engine ecu, abs, airbag, climate, factory alarm) don't share common diagnostic bus so there's no exchange of information among them as in modern cars.

As said, cars only with Automatic "ClimaSystem" have this external temp sensor. What I know is that those Climasystem ECUs are the same found on the Fiat Bravo/a/Marea my98 onwards and those have the ability of showing external temp in instrument cluster, pushing a button on centre console, plus the ability of doing basic auto-diagnose of the system doing some tricks with the dials of Climasystem and showing error codes on instrument cluster odometer display.

What I think is that Alfa never updated 145/6's instrument cluster to have a serial line wired from Climasystem Ecu, not like Fiat, who made new clusters to Facelift models...Easiest thing is to try to make diagnostic procedure as I can do on my Bravo and look if it shows something on odometer display, if it does I will hurry and wire a pushbutton to see if it shows external temp smile.gif

well,

thank you everyone for your feedback. I'm wondering if I made it up now!

I didn't get a chance to get the manual for the car last night and look it up, but I will tonight.

I didn't think the car had that functionality, but it seemed to be mentioned in the index, as if it was a feature..
I'll check in the manual tonight...

I agree with Antonio, there might be this function in car as they used parts among other Fiat cars at the time. it just might be not wired so needs more investigation.

"it just might be not wired so needs more investigation"

I AM the person to sort that right out!

remember that post I did on that wiring loom branch that is unused over the gearbox...?

MORE than a coincidence methinks...

What book is that you've got there? The owners handbook for the facelift 145 has no mention in the index of an "Outside Temperature Display" and it's essentially the same car as the 146 minus a couple of doors. I believe yours is is a facelift 146. I see nothing on page 67 of yours that relates to the outside temperature display even though the index states that the info is on page 67. Maybe the 146 owners handbook just has a mistake in the index unsure.gif

This is a scan of my facelift 145 owners manual: http://forum.alfa145.com/index.php?showtopic=11636

THAT is my point!

There is NOTHING on page 67, as I said at the start!

Isn't it peculiar! Intrigue! Controversy! Questions!

I need to print out some of the big schematics, and look for that pair of cables in the branch loom, that are unused, as identified in my other post.

I have 'another' Italian car, that has a temperature sensor in the same place. Does the Integrale have one, at that point, Giallo?

Here is my manual-

Even without engine under the bonnet of my Facelift 146 Ti, I bolted the battery and tried the Climasystem test, as I do on my Bravo, wich shares the same Borletti MCC55F Ecu. It does the test of temp sensors and air mixture flap, but nothings shows on the instruments cluster of the car, wich only confirms the possibility of the lack of a link between both the instrument cluster&climasystem Ecus..so bad..
