Hello again. Last two weeks I notice blue smoke somethimes. So cold start NOTHING, driving with cold engine NOTHING or WHITE smoke(steam), driving fast( over 1oo km/h) blue smoke sometimes, driving down the hill without touching gas pedal BLUE smoke cloud behind me. Smell like hell also.
- oil change rwo weeks ago, air filter and oil filter
- timing belt kit a year ago
My rpm in neutral is 1ooo, sometimes jumping from 8oo to 12oo then stays at 1ooo.
Engine is 1.6 twin spark, 88 kw, any ideas???

hey bubaman;

Sounds scary- try for a replacement coolant sensor (on / near thermostat)

And see if you can get a compression-test, to see if you've dropped a valve or something...

sounds more like head gasket is on the way out

compression test is the way to go also if you know a good garage get a 'sniff' test on the coolant to check for contamination

Most likely engine is burning oil. If coolant level stays same I'd keep an eye on oil level.

I've got blue smoke on my Boxer - smokes on start up, when cold, also under heavy load.

if just burning oil it could be valve stem oil seal fail

Hi again and thanks for advises. I been yesterday for diagnostic check and only one fault we find. Lambda. O2 sensor. Last 3 days, city cruising i do not have blue smoke. When I drive a bit faster, around 100 km/h somethimes, not always i see blue smoke. I did head gasket replace 3 mounths ago and also oil and filter. Could it be bad oil or could it be O2 sensor? Oil level is fine, I did about 2ooo km and alfa spend about 1dl of oil, I think thats ok? Best regards

No, one garage did that. My Alfa was leaking before that, after that is very clean, no leaks found under the bonnet and under car.

No. Actualy I think after oil change that I first time notice blue smoke. Maybe bad oil quality, can be that? Or you suspect for head gasket? But my engine after that looks like new.

I can't see how bad oil would produce fumes like that, Bubaman...

you need a compression test, to establish mechanical seal on each piston

white smoke could be indicative of poor mixture (coolant sensor), but blue denotes oil reaching then cylinders and leaving through the exhaust valves...

Im gone do compression test next week. I just call a garrage but they are full till next week. Anyway, will let you know whats hapend. Still, men who work there told me that blue smoke can be becouse of 02 sensor, giving me a bad mixture of fuel and creating blue smoke but I insisted for compression test and it will be next week. Thanks for answers.

If your cat is gone then most likely it's oil - while cat was in place it traped some of it. Also wrong oil grade can cause it too - usualy if you put thinner oil than required it could squeze itself through piston rings/valve seals on especially high mileage heavely used engines

Hi, many thanks for answer. Oil is Mannol 10/40. Car has 230ooo km done but year ago timing belt broke and new parts are in inside. Timing belt kit, valves, valve seals and valve guides. Everything was ok till now. So I hope that engine is still fine. I drive every day about 5okm, and somethimes only i notice that blue smoke, not when car starting and not all the time.

Any ideas? Problem started after oil change and cuting CAT

The Twin sparks burn a little bit of oil. I wouldn't worry about it unless you got a massive smoke screen behind you. If you smell something inside the car is it a leaking exhaust? Vigorous driving on mine will consume a half to 3/4 litres every 6 weeks or less. I've got new valve stem seals and three new valves.

gosh Ganz,

That seems like a bit of oil.

What kind of mileage are you trucking in a six week timescale...?

Yes, I think thats to much. I did about 2ooo km and spend 1l oil. I think that this oil ( mannol) is bad quality so Im planning to change and see if there is some difference. Starting is good, no blue smoke, driving slow, no blue smoke, when im driving 3ooo+ rpm I notice blue smoke. Thanks for answers, I must find what is wrong? Im gone try put selenia 2ok inside and see if is better.
