The alarm on my car (Phase 1 145 QV) has been messing about on and off since I bought the car last year - so I've removed it.

However, now the remote central locking doesn't work. Now - I'm fairly sure that the last time I removed the alarm unit the remote locking DID work, just without the indicators flashing on lock/unlock.

Currently, both doors will lock/unlock if I use the key in either of them - so the central locking is working OK - it's just the remote locking that has stopped working.

FYI - I've replaced the batteries in the key (red light flashes on key press), and I've also replaced fuse no. 16 in the main fusebox for the remote control unit.

So - can anyone tell me if the remote door locking SHOULD work if the alarm unit is disconnected?

Any thoughts, folks?

I've tested the wiring to the remote receiver and everything checks out OK - I can trigger the door lock/unlock process by earthing the relevant lines.

(If you're interested, earthing the blue wire will send a lock command, earthing the white wire will send an unlock command.)

I have power and earths in all the right places, and continuity to the alarm unit connectors in the boot.

But the remote unit still refuses to respond.

Can anyone confirm if the alarm unit needs to be connected (and functional) for the remote to work?

Think I've just answered my own question - this, plus a few other articles, plus my own recollection, suggests that the remote should work if the alarm is disconnected.

http://forum.alfa145.com/index.php?showtop...=alarm&st=0

I've tried again (without the alarm connected) using my second key, and the remote central locking does work. It seems my normal key has stopped talking to the remote receiver...

To add to this thread - as I have the four digit code for the alarm system, I was successfully able to reprogram both of my keys back into the system using the procedure in the "Anti-Theft Alarm" section of the workshop manual.

Link here: http://www.alfa145.com/upload/Alfa145Manua...ft%20Device.PDF

The procedure is described on pages 5-7 of the document.
