I'm struggling to connect with my kkl vag cable using multiecuscan.

My device manager says:

Usb serial ch340 com 1

Driver provider:wch.cn
Driver version:3.1.2009.6

Does anyone know if this is correct?

Hi Stevie - do you know the cable is good - have you successfully used it before?

Just because there are apparently lots of knock-offs on the market that won't work with MES...

Also, what OS are you running on your computer?

Hiya Jeremy , I'm running Windows 10.

I bought a cable from eBay at first, 2.65 from china, looked the part, but when it didn't work, and my pc had trouble detecting it, I threw it out and bought one for 20 from www.scantool-direct.co.uk, it looks the same, and the pc has no trouble finding it.

P.s. my mates Delphi software and cable did connect, so I know my 3 pin adapter cable is ok.

Hi - I'm running Win10 also - here's what I get with the cable connected:

Check in Device Manager how your cable appears - I'm surprised it's showing as COM1 because that tends to be for internal ports.

In my case the FTDI driver is a match for the FTDI chip in the lead which is - I believe - the only legit source of chips for these diagnostic leads.

Anyhow - this lead (purchased from Gendan) has always worked for me on various laptops over the years.

Complete kit including MES:

https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FESNOCAN.html (this doesn't include the 3-pin adapter needed for the 145/146 but I think you have that already)

HTH!

Another thought on this - might be worth downloading the Win10 FTDI drivers to your machine in any case... no harm done if they are not a match for your lead. You can get them here:

I've deliberately kept my Windows XP on a dedicated partition on my old laptop to avoid upgrades and whatnot. Recently upgraded to the full FiatMultiscan and have to say the communications from the owner (Russian or Bulgarian I think) was brilliant. The full version also wipes airbag error codes without soldering in resisters etc.

I've got the blue VAG connector type for the 145.

KKL cables with CH340 chip are crap. Have couple of them lying around on shelf and not even working with software they came with.

Safest choice is KKL 409.1 cable with FTDI chip. Just search ebay for kkl 409.1 FTDI - lots of them for couple of quid.

Also due to fact that it is not clear whether cable uses genuine or chinese clone FTDI chip it's better to use driver provided with cable on CD and not update it past 2.08 version as newer FTDI drivers (I think from version 2.12) brick not genuine chips and cable will become unusable. It's possible to repair it but for that you'll have to have eeprom programmer.
