Bad luck
![]() I know a lot of VAG people upgrade to fixed mass flywheels on clutch replacement as they are much cheaper than the standard dual mass flywheels - but from my passenger experience it increases the vibrations felt through the chassis. -------------------- Websites are like a**eholes, everyone has one, and im wary of any bloke trying to direct people into their's.
The world is like a ride at an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly colored and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, 'Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride...' And we ... kill those people. |

why dont people buy petrols?! so much cheaper to maintain and run! you just dont need all that torque in a 3 door hatchback.

6 Speed? that age of 6 speed has a reputation for being weak
![]() As for the DMF, as AJ said, most people who care more about reliability than refinement fit SMF conversion kits, but they are worse for vibration on the Diesels, for some ungodly reason they fitted DMF's to all the petrols aswell!! it helps with torque delivery to the fragile 6 speed boxes but makes the flywheels a consumable part! and an expensive one at that! -------------------- ![]() |

Well... That's that pretty much designated as bin material. Took it to a guy in Nottingham and he has found:
6th gear is f**ked 3rd gear is badly worn Crownwheel has a big chunk missing out of it Obviously, the casing is bu**ered too Over £700 to make useable. Time to look on eBay me thinks. Mind you, he did speak most highly about Alfa gearboxes! ![]() -------------------- |

I know a lot of VAG people upgrade to fixed mass flywheels on clutch replacement as they are much cheaper than the standard dual mass flywheels - but from my passenger experience it increases the vibrations felt through the chassis. I did look into the conversion kit, but then found a full Sachs DMF kit for £360, so I went with that. Also, my reckoning was that someone who supposedly knew what they were doing designed this heap of junk to have a DMF, so I wasn't going to change it. This was confirmed by Scott (the gearbox guy) who has performed conversions before and said that a solid flywheel would make the car horrible to drive in any sort of traffic. 6 Speed? that age of 6 speed has a reputation for being weak ![]() After a bit of t'Internetting, I've found shitloads of failures with these crappy gearboxes, and it's not just the 6 speed ones either, it seems to be pretty much across the range of 02x type gearboxes, even some as low as 20,000 to 30,000 miles have failed in a similar and spectacular way. It says a lot when VAG don't have any of the cover/bell housing plate in stock in the UK. Modern German cars can go bo****ks, I'm sticking with my galactic-mileage Alfa! ![]() -------------------- |

Moral of the story has to change then...Dont buy VAG or anything nazi ![]() -------------------- 'You know you're a true petrol head when you've had to buy parts for your Alfa'

DMF's are generally a PITA, whatever vehicle they are in! However, some vehicles are worse than others. We have Shogun ones that are fairly common to go for over a grand, and Nissan might as well have made their Navara DMF's out of paper mache
