I've been doing some thinking lately (that probably explains my headache...) and have come to the conclusion that an essential piece of safety kit for driving on the Nordschleife is a crash helmet. There are a number of reasons for this, most of them fairly obvious.

- Even though technically it isn't, it is a racetrack and most other road users treat it as such.
- It is a dangerous stretch of tarmac with constantly changing conditions and grip levels.
- Anyone who has been in a car with me or seen my last Nurburgring video will know that I like to drive 'con brio'. smile.gif
- My new car has none of the safety features of the GTV that I drove previously; no ABS, no airbags, no EuroNCAP rating...

And above all I VALUE MY HEAD. It may not be much of a head but it's mine and it's the only one I've got.

I have decided to take a crash helmet with me and will be wearing it at all times on track. I will also have a rule that any passenger in my car must also be wearing a crash helmet. I know that some of you that are going on this trip are taking helmets, but others maybe not. I would advise all of you to get one, either buy one or borrow one. It need not be expensive; a BS approved helmet can be bought for as little as £30-£40 from your local motorbike showroom.
