So the engine and gearbox are out and the GTV goes away today. I've tried to remove as much as I can and I hope I haven't missed anything. I found the battery cable that runs from the boot to the wee box in the engine bay so I think I'll mount the battery in the boot of the 145.
Most of the strip was pretty straight forward, the only things I hadn't come across before were the driveshaft bolts, they were a pain in the a**e. I cut the front cross member out and the end of the chassis legs so the engine came out easily enough. The new parts are starting to arrive, so far I've bought the coilovers, front track control arms, track rod ends, front hubs, front wheel bearings, inner and outer cv joints, rear tie rods, rear drop links, rear hubs & bearing, rear top arm ball joints. The bill is starting to get a bit over the top so I've decided to go with the 305mm brakes for now, they're going for a refurb and a paint instead. So the next plan is to prep all the parts for powdercoating and get them away, then I can start to strip the engine and gearbox down. New clutch (and possibly flywheel if it has a DMF), timing belt, water pump, tensioners etc. Heads skimmed and gaskets changed, new plugs etc. and generally get things all clean and shiny again ![]() Once all that is done, I can go and collect the 145 ![]() Does anyone know if I should use the GTV steering rack or stick with the 145's? (The cardboard box is to remind me there is jaggy stuff under there lol) |

My tip for the driveshaft bolts is an impact gun. I tried to use it as little as I could during the strip, trying to be gentle and not strip anything but I don't think I would have removed the near side driveshaft bolts without it.

Looks so fun.
Have you salvaged the harnesses among the engine, ecu, and immobiliser or planned to obtain or fabricate new one? BTW my battery is located in the boot, the engine is still twinny for the time being tho. This post has been edited by FactoryOsaruJPN: 2nd August 2016 22:17 -------------------- Factory Osaru JPN

Easiest thing for the front end is use the entire GTV Subframe / struts / hubs / rack etc. That way you wont have any issues with selecting the correct track rod ends in future etc if they are any small differences.

Cool, that makes sense yeah, I'll add a new rack to the list ![]() Looks so fun. Have you salvaged the harnesses among the engine, ecu, and immobiliser or planned to obtain or fabricate new one? Good progress! The wiring should be pretty easy, but you'll need to cater for the 6 pulse input to the dials (if it bothers) you, as the dials will expect 4 pulses, so you RPM and speed will read higher than they actually are - there are various pulse converters available now, I'll try and find the one my friend used on a kit car. I'm sure you got it but get the gear linkage - I can't remember if the GTV is rod or cable

The world is like a ride at an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly colored and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, 'Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride...' And we ... kill those people. |

I'd like to see the rear suspension from a GTV fitted to a 145, I bet that would make for some awesome handling
