Ive recently bought a VAG COM KKL409.1 cable with the CH340 chip and I think that theres something wrong with that cable as it doesnt detect my 145 AT ALL so I've decided to look at an ELM 327 cable that I've found for a steal biggrin.gif

Look here :
http://www.gumtree.co.za/cp-accessories-st...r-new-502119927

Thing is, will this cable work on my 145 and my GTV? I can't get another VAG COM KKL cable anywhere in SA and I'm not really keen on importing one from SA as customs in Johannesburg is rather tight..

Thanks

Thanks for that one Jason! If only he shipped to South Africa rolleyes.gif I can't seem to get any VAG cables with the FDTI chipset in SA but I will see what I can do... Do u think the ELM327 will work on my cars? What makes the ELM327 so different?

Cheers

Sounds like you've already got an FTDI cable sorted but as for the ELM interface I was always under the impression it wasn't compatible with the earlier Motronic ECU's (at least not the CF1 engined cars). Due to how expensive the ELM cables are compared to the VAG-COM ones I was never tempted to get one to try and either prove or disprove this.

If anyone does know if the ELM cables work with the 145/146 it would be good to have a conclusive answer.

It's interesting you say that they're expensive compared to the VAG COM cables.. This one is around R215 including postage which is the cheapest I've ever seen one for..

thankfully the seller I bought the VAG COM cable from accepted that the cable was defective and would replace it with a FDTI chipset as requested.. WIll this ELM cable work on the GTV??

OK, it looks like the ELM cable will work on the CF2 cars with a Motronic M1.5.5 ECU but not the earlier cars. Would still be good to hear from someone who has successfully used one on the 145/146 though.

It also seems that the ELM cable will work with the GTV too.

ELM327 is standard 16-pin OBD scan tool, it cannot be plugged into the Alfa 3-pin diagnostic socket. You need additional 3-pin to 16-pin adapter, then it will work great
