Hey 145 man-
I wish I had YOUR garage! Yes, it is exciting- as such cars will continue 'the cause' for may years. Good to be part of keeping something alive, I think.. Can you show a good picture of the rear of the engine, whilst it's out, please..? Underneath the inlet manifold.. (the darkside of the moon!) |

Changed the clutch and rear crank seal today, took the opportunity to redo the gasket seal on the sump as well.
Car is due back from the paint shop next week so I want to get the belts and variator changed before the car is in the garage. Also will change the cam seals and variator bearing shells when the belts are being done. Should have some photos of things going back on next week, making good progress. |

Nice job 145man. Great cars to 'do' up. And also you don't see any around at all!

Thermostat was ok, but if it fails later it’s relatively straight forward to change, the alternator I have replaced because it’s such a pain to change for the home mechanic. The existing alternator although working sounded noisey and the bearings were clearly tired.

Looking good - always been tempted to buy a spare engine and do all the accessories, servicing, mods and clean up while the spares out and accessible, and then just swap them over in one go.

Engine has now had its "major" service and I'm now cleaning parts as they are put back on the engine, giving it a much fresher look. Great work mate. Not many people would take on this kind of job. When I look back and think of all the bearings, seals, gaskets, nuts and bolts. I don't think I'd fancy doing this again. Good thing about taking the engine out is that you can bolt the cambelt cover on easily. With the engine in place trying to get all the cambelt cover bolts on is one of the worse jobs on the car. Just spent 5 hours getting the old cambelt cover off and putting on a replacement. Hans are bloodied, battered, bruised and cold ![]() -------------------- G A N Z 145

(hey effkay- I'm with you on that)
145man- are you going to go for the engine-cover-off-look?- It looks so smart and businesslike without the plastic top... |

Hi All
Car is back from the paint shop, and is looking really good the paint job is superb. Was going to put the engine in after putting back a few bits on the bulk head while access is good. But disaster struck when the thread stripped on the air con evaporator, had to remove the heater assembly - what a pain!! Finally managed to track down a new evaporator, none available in the UK so had to had to use eBay Italy - second hand parts also hard to come by due to the aluminium fitting and steel bolts fusing together. Started putting the glass and other fittings back on as well as the lights, still got the rear brake lines to do so plenty to get on with. Photos to follow |

Hi Dante
I was hoping to make Spring Alfa Day, but today heard from the Evaporator supplier from Italy and the part they have is for a left hand drive car. Like everyone else they dont have a right hand drive one available. I’ve asked Nathan at Clover Breakers if he can help, but it will be difficult to track down a used part due to the corrosion of the fittings. It’s something I don’t want to do at the moment, but I may have to scrap the air con. I will see what’s on offer over the next few weeks |

hmm..
that's food-for-thought, certainly. I've got aircon on the ![]() With everything else I've done on the car, it's always been the last job to sort out. I think if I were you (or me, when it comes to it shortly) I would take the LHD part and approach a small engineering firm to produce what you need to get it to work. |
