Seems rising costs and a parting of the ways did for P&P. I discovered this a few weeks ago when I took my 166 to Solo Italia just west of Oxford. Lo and behold, there was Kevin Palmer behind the desk. But before you get too excited, Solo Italia themselves are closing this month due to rising costs and too little passing trade... shame.

Incidentally, they do have a nice GTV 3.0 for sale in navy, if anyone's interested...

(Hullo Jeremy!)

Oh, that's a grave shame. Where is all that marque-specialist talent going to go...?

Hey Jim!

Not sure what's next for the Solo Italia team - but they did look pretty beaten, unsurprisingly.

Fortunately I have a couple of other local options within striking distance...

That is indeed fortunate- and great to hear you're still trucking the 166

I might do a trip South myself for 'advanced' diagnostics to try and get to the bottom of the staggeringly low mpg. So, I'll have to pick the right place. There that place I see advertised in Auto Italia; I can't remember the name off the top of my head- they seem to have a picture of a yellow 146 racer (!) in the advert. They've got a couple of garages I think. Need to look 'em up...

Or I might just swap the coolant sensor next.

I think it's these guys

Wow, that would be quite a trip south... might be worth stopping at AutoLusso in Penrith on the way...

Well, the 166 passed its MoT today with only minor advisories - so I celebrated by buying this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-146-1...119.m1438.l2649

It is rusty, but not catastrophically - and the good thing is, no-one has tried to weld the floorpan yet. So if it really is worth saving, I can get it done properly.

Anyway, looks like I'm back in the 146 1.8 fold - and, if howmanyleft is to be believed, I think I've now owned 10% of the UK fleet...!

That would've been nuts for you - the car was within spitting distance of the Channel...

The interior is good, for sure. If the car's not salvageable, you get first dibs on it!

thankyou

Black wouldn't be my first choice for leather, I must admit- but it did seem in very good condition, and it looked ace in a 146.

I was dreaming about how it could be mine!

I was also thinking about how much hassle it would be to try and get the interior of THIS, to work in a 146...?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-145-1...119.m1438.l2649

Obviously the front seats would need the frames swapped within the covers, and the door cards wouldn't work- but anyone get any knowledge on whether the back seats are compatible..??

Was it? That far South? Did you get it trailered back, Jeremy?

Nah, I drove it back... having been to see it before bidding I knew the car was roadworthy, so I booked it an MoT, insured it for the day, and drove it back. It didn't miss a beat.

Now sat on my drive awaiting the completion of a few odds and ends on my Spider - then I'll get after the 146.

Here's the family photograph:
