If anyone is planning to drive in France after July, be aware of the new law coming in that requires all drivers (including tourists) to carry a DIY breathalyser kit in their car which is calibrated to French limits (50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood)...

The reflective jacket and triangle is a good idea and may make the difference from being seen to not being seen on a dark country road. Breathalyser thing is just to make money though.

The reflective jacket...1 needs to be carried in the cabin..ie it is possible to put it on before getting out of the car..in the boot is not good enough..

The breathalyser...hmm..don't panic..no-one over here knows what will happen yet!...they are just started being sold in the supermarkets so for once the Daily Fail may not be as wrong as it normally is...really can't see the Gendarmes fining foreigners who don't have them in the car, unless there is a something else amiss as well..ie someone starts gobbing off at them!

Drink/drive tolerance is much stricter here, for all intents and purposes it is zero..about 1 glass of wine with your dinner, so if you get stopped and have had a drink..well you take your chances....

Not sure if it's money making scheme as can't see much money is to be be made at 50p a throw? The French do have a much worse death rate than UK..this is one way they are trying to get the point home..although personally I think it is just conditioning people to the next change that is just around the corner... a friend works for Pug/Citroen and their next generation cars will require blowing into a tube before the engine is allowed to start.....

just as a footnote, don't believe everything you read on the daily mail.

99% of it is utter s*ite.

In fact, I'd even go so far as to say the ONLY they DO get right is the date on the mast head.
