either water from engine wash or coolant leaking (check if it tastes sweet)

The water looked murky, and longstanding with deposits in it.

I'm gonna do a chemical leak test, rule out whether gasses are getting into water. Appears to run ok, the only thing I noticed was uneven idle occasionly (only just bought the car).

I scoured the net and found another person having a problem with water ingress through gap around plastic cover and oil filler. Could just be that.

I cleared water out, changed all plugs , cleaned lead, fired up a treat.

Is it worth running the car for a few days and seeing if the issue re-occurs?

in my experience it's always worth driving car for couple days especialy if it was standing and not used for some time to see if there will be any problems with it.
however consider when last time timing belt was replaced

Common issue from where people have hosed or jet washed the engine bay. I had it in 2 of mine. Clean it up, move on bud.
