my mate who got the oh so controversial sticker for my 145 went with a LOAD of minis, they met up with some german minis and all of them went round on a parade lap first thing one morning. i doubt we would get enough alfas for that though! i dont know the numbers but there must have been about 100.

its almost the end of the season, so easter would probably be the next best time to go, although of course the weather wouldn't be as good as later in the year. i would love to take my 145 down there but i dont know, taking my pride and joy around a racing track, plus i'm only young and inexperienced, so it might not be the best idea sad.gif i dream of it though *sigh* anyway, i'm a very likely for the trip, but 80% certain i would have to be a passenger.

The V6 145 sounded just incredible, I kid you not, the noise of that thing turned the heads of even the loudest 911 or M3 owner!  It sounded awesome blasting away from the barrier, I would've loved to have heard that round the track!!!

QUOTE(sweens308 @ Sep 20 2005, 08:33 AM)
I also blagged a lap on the Sunday morning with a guy in a UK Alfa GTV, he was absolutely ragging the thing round the track, kerbs n' all.  Halfway round he pointed out that he was secretly filming the lap, via a tiny bullet camera.  I then realised why there was a cunning wiring loom going round the dash and behind!

I was that guy!! pappap.gif

Was a great weekend wasn't it. I only managed 2 more laps after your ride as I had to head back to Calais to catch the afternoon ferry. The lap after yours was my best of the weekend - dry track, little traffic - but my final lap was spoilt by having to slow for 2 accidents.

I have one of my onboard videos online at the moment if you're interested smile.gif This video starts about 60 seconds after you hopped out of the passenger seat... right-click, save-as - 68MB

I'm definitely going back for more next year coolio.gif

Hey cool! I'm downloading as I type!!

Thanks for the post, it's Joel, isn't it?

I thoroughly enjoyed the lap, thanks for letting me tag along....hope you don't mind me referring to how you were 'ragging it', but you were and full marks for doing so!!! It was great fun! I trust your brakes held up ok?!

I know what you mean about the enjoyment factor on an empty track. My last one was on the Sunday evening, in fact the track closed whilst I was out, following a crash. It was sunny, hot and the track was empty, it was just glorious!!!

As you may have seen, a few of us are planning a return trip next May, we may well see you there......If memory serves, you said you have a 75....now that would be one to 'rag' round!!!

Take it easy, bye for now.

Paul.

Yes!!! That is now one of my fave 'ring videos!!!

Just goes to show and prove my point that you simply do NOT need a monster-bhp car to have a blast there........9 min 30 seconds in a 2.0 Twinspark!!!!

I love how the GTV is overtaking an Evo, an Elise and best of all, a Ferrari 360 at Galgenkopf!!!

Brilliant!!!!

ps, great pics on the site by the way!

Hey Paul,

It was good to meet another Alfa enthusiast there. Unlike you I'm not brave enough to go up to complete strangers and blag a ride in their car, but I was happy to give you a ride and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was hoping to get back there sometime around April or May, so I will keep an eye on your plans and maybe try to co-ordinate with you.

My brakes held up ok in the end. I had fitted some new Brembo discs and OMP fast road pads the week before the trip, and I don't think they had bedded in properly. I nearly crapped myself on one of my first laps of the weekend when I hit the brakes at Aremberg and the pedal went a lot lower than I was expecting and I nearly went straight on into the gravel! After that the pedal was quite a bit softer than it had been but they worked just fine thankfully.

And yes, I also have a 75 3-litre Veloce which will hopefully be up for a good ragging next spring smile.gif

Cheers,
Joel.

Excellent video! The gtv does handle well, I did notice when you shot past us how much speed you were able to keep through the corners. Is the mic just picking up some noise or does the car really crack that badly, in particular the first few corners?
Is the car modified at all?

Hi AJ.

Was that you I passed on the exit of Brunnchen? If it was then that was the worst understeer I have ever seen in a car - almost comical. I guess that is the effect of the heavy lump of iron under the bonnet.

That creaking sound was greatly amplified by the mics - they were taped directly to the dashboard, one by the glove box and one behind the instrument shroud. I don't normally hear any such noises, but then I don't normally drive like that on my way to work each day!

The GTV is the best handling front-driver I've ever driven. Nice direct steering, little body roll, and a natural balance that gives slight understeer when pushed hard, but can be kept neutral with a little throttle control. This one isn't modded at all apart from some fast-road pads and poly bushes in the rear trailing arms.

btw - that first pic of me (looks like Wehrseifen), did you take it? Is it available in higher-res?

Cheers,
Joel.

Joel, I've just downloaded the RUF article from the now defunct Performance Car, (now to all intents and purposes, Evo Magazine) ........I remember buying it meself, can't believe it was 10 years ago though!

I've just watched the RUF Vid, I've seen it before, but only only a very low res download. I think I, or someone else posted it here once.....this one is so much better though, the oversteeryness is more visible!! Thanks for making those two RUF items available for everyones consumption!

That tester, Stefan has got some serious talent/bravery/balls/screws loose. That YellowBird has got 469 bhp, so how the f*** can he keep it on the track, let alone powerslide the thing perfectly round.....and in loafers too?!?!

It looks to me as though, unlike the 'normal' factory 911 Turbo of the day which had to make do with a 4 speed 'box, this RUF one has a 5 speeder and fromwhat I can make out, on a dog-leg pattern......either that or he uses first gear round Adenau Forst and Wehrseifen! I guess RUF must've built their own 'box for the job! I wonder how many YellowBird's were made and how much they went for and go for now?

Excellent stuff!

lol that would of been my 156 then, lol

I think we had 4 people in the car that lap.

Front shocks are a bit bonucy plus it has really s**te goodyear tyres. Next time i go over i should be in my 145, if i pull my finger out and fix it.

hehe, glad some of you enjoyed the vid smile.gif

Paul, I always assumed that the RUF had the same 4 speed box that the standard 911 turbo of that time had. He only uses 4 gears around the lap, and with a vmax of 211mph then first gear must be good for 70mph or so which would be plenty for A-F and Wehrseifen.

When I get around to it I have a few other Nurburgring video gems to upload. How about Walter Rohrl in a 996GT3, or John Neilsen in an XJ220 pappap.gif
