OK, bit of a way in advance but I've decided that for next year, my 'ring trip is going to tie in with the ADAC 24-Hour race. ohyes.gif

The event takes place on Thursday 22 May - Sunday 25 May (I think the race itself is Sat Noon-Sun Noon) and it looks like there are quite a few campsites that will be set up around the circuit at around €9-€10 a night, per person.

The race this year had all 4 seasons-worth of weather in 24 hours, the start was delayed for 2 hours due to a downpour and fog caused a stoppage in the night too. The grid has allsorts, raging from the full-on race spec 911s and Lambos, right down to a 20 year old Merc SEC that races each year!

By all accounts the experience is awesome and it sure appeals to me more than Le Mans. It uses both the GP circuit and the Nordschleife but for the proper experience it will have to be spectating on the Nordschleife with the bevvied-up Germans beer.gif .....I may even treat myself to a DSLR for the trip too....

I won't know the opening times/dates for the public lapping sessions either side of the race until the new year, but I will certainly be fitting in some extra days either side of the main event, for some lappage......even if it will be relatively sedate in the Volvo!

So, for anyone else interested, dates in your diaries.....

The aim is/was to watch the entire 24hr race, including qualifying and do some lappery either side, on the tourist days but at the moment I'm wondering whether to go at all.

Nürburgring GmbH are currently installing 3-metre high fences round the ENTIRE circuit over the winter, ready for next year (apparently to comply with the lastest VLN legislation) and this is going to spoil the spectating that is a big part of going to the 'ring, even on tourist days and totally ruin it for the phototography enthusiasts!

The close-to-the-action spectating is something I've really enjoyed and I just don't know if I'd enjoy the 24hr with sodding-great fences spoiling it!
Here's some pictures to show what I mean...... no3.gif

So.......I am unsure at the moment and I may throw my bike in the back of the Volvo and do the Rad-Am-Ring in August instead. biggrin.gif

Oh......if you have mods on your car(s), you'd be wise to read this thread too

thanks for that its getting a bit to namby pamby. people take the risk and no the risks. it really will spoil the ring if they put hat fencing up thought there was enough saftey for spectators when i have being. oh well. thanks for theinfo. may see you there may not lol

We looked at going last year but the track is closed for public laps the week before and opens again on the tuesday i think.

Still like the idea of going though
