Hey guys.
My "problem" is that we have a 155 1.8 ts (140 hp) and a 145 1.8 ts (144 hp) and the 155 has a longer gearbox overall, but the acceleration of the 145 feels quicker. It's okey something for something.
But it feels weird if I'm on highway, and 140 km/h ~ 4250 rpm. It would be nice that I can pull it to the 6th gear.
I've heard from many people that a longer 5th gear (from a diesel maybe) good and easy to change, but I think it would cause worse acceleration on the 5th gear. (And also the gap between the 4th and the 5th would be big.)

So imo the 6 speed gearbox would be the best for me, but which one? I know that the 166 2.0 ts 150 hp has 6 speed gearbox, but I cant find infos about the 100km/h room and things like that.

I hope you'll understand my English, sry for that. smile.gif
Have a nice day guys!

hey Lecram,

That's an interesting project.

I've thought about it myself: but had considered a FIAT Punto 6-speed box instead.

I don't know if it's possible; but I DO know, that in FIAT Coupé land- 'everyone' wants the 6-speed box from the LE version.
However, there is a catch; for the conversion to work on some cars; you need to swap the driveshafts and front hub carriers also.

Not sure if that is a consideration in Alfa-land...

Good luck with this- please let us know what you find out.

Bear in mind that the 166 has a totally different front subframe from the 145/146/GTV/Spider/155 platform - so even if the 'box from a Twinspark 166 fitted to your engine, the mounting points for the gearbox-to-subframe would almost certainly be different.

Here's a thread during which the same question was debated:
