BTW - one of the guys from the alfaowner forum has an engineering business and manufactures a number of hard-to-find components for various Alfas. I've asked him about making repair panels for 145/146 floorpans - and he seems up for it.
If the 146 is salvageable, I'll talk to him further about this - but is anyone else interested? The idea is to produce some repair panels with the correct corrugations for a cut and replace of the troublesome drain hole areas. |

ooh!
decisions decisions... yes, 'perhaps'... This being Alfa Land, nothing is permanent in floorpans. I'd be interested to see what comes out of this- This post has been edited by dante giacosa: 14th March 2018 13:33 |

OK, I've booked the car in for an MoT test on Friday - will see what agreement we can come to re. rust repairs required to get the car back on the road. Fingers crossed!
I'll be down in Devon over the Easter break so I'll aim to visit the engineering company who may be able to make some floorpan repair panels. |

So, another question for you regarding sill trim panels and their fixings.
To remove mine, I'll have to drill out some of the screws along the bottom edge; and I'm not expecting all of the plastic press-stud fixings on the sides to survive either. Question is - are these fixings still available? From ePer, the plastic press-stud fixings are part no. 8243 2125 - available on eBay. The screws - 1568 8507 - and the fixings into which they screw - 763 7466 - look as though they are still available via the dealer network. Has anyone out there tried to get hold of these? Also - the clips securing the scuttle trim panels - I'll need a few of these, too. Part number looks like 6060 1526 - can anyone confirm? Thank you! |

Also - the clips securing the scuttle trim panels - I'll need a few of these, too. Part number looks like 6060 1526 - can anyone confirm? Thank you! I bought some generic fir tree clips such as these for the side skirt's side fixings https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-Clips-For-FI...R0AAOSwc2FaIC0s Not a perfect fit, but I only needed a couple each side and they seemed to do the trick. For the underside fixings I bought some of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10X-SIDE-SILL-SK...=item33bd86c9c2. Again, they weren't perfect and I had to then insert raw plugs into a couple of them followed by screws. I found it difficult to get the skirts to fit tightly against the sills (probably because some of the side clips were a bit worn) so I helped glue it on with a thin bead of black silicon sealant where the rubber edging is. This also stops water running down the side, behind the skirts and through the clip holes and inside the sills. |

The screws you can replace with stainless steel ones of the same size - there is a washer/collar which you need to retain (if you haven't destroyed it while drilling out the screws). I got the 'plugs' the screws screw into, and the fir tree studs from Mangoletsi about 3 years ago when I first repaired my sill trims - worth a try. |

ina word, 'yes', this stuff is still available.
Except the plastic fixings for the sills themselves (to receive the screws) are not. I bought the screws themselves last year from Alfa, but you need a plastic ring for each fixing also. (The washer/collar, as described by Steve) I still intend to get these to make it OE, but financial implications at the time prevented me from ordering them. When my gnarly screws came off, the collars were irretrievably bonded to the screws- appearing as one part. 10 of the screws for the sills alone, were £20. I still intend to get the proper additional fixings though. Let me dig out the part details, and I'll come back. This post has been edited by dante giacosa: 19th March 2018 20:31 |

okay-
found it; I bought 10 sill-screws last year from the main dealers and it was £23.62, not £26. The part No. was 15688507 As Steve says; for completeness; you need the collars too. These were 'special order', so they were coming from somewhere... This post has been edited by dante giacosa: 19th March 2018 20:36 |

Excellent - thanks for the thorough and rapid answers... good to know I can get replacement fixings BEFORE I discover I need them...
Can any of you confirm re. the part number for the scuttle fixings though? |

How do you mean, the scuttle fixings, Jeremy..?
(not the scuttle-panel fixings?) Do you mean the plastic inserts for the metal sills themselves on the car..? These are NLA, I was told.. I don't have the part number to hand I am afraid It 'might' be worth trawling through these guys; http://sklep.euroforin.eu/about-us-pm-8.html or these might be your friend... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFA-ROMEO-SIDE-...119.m1438.l2649 This post has been edited by dante giacosa: 20th March 2018 14:16 |

I finally got round to taking the 146 down to my local MoT station for a test the week before last - and it came back with pretty much a carbon copy of the last test under the previous owner.
I got to look at the car up on the ramps, though, so I can see that in addition to welding down both sills and all drain holes, the car needs a couple of brake lines and hoses replacing and a new front subframe that have all also succumbed to the rust bug. None of this is especially difficult or costly, but I've decided to draw a line under this project due to a shortage of time and space to do it justice. So - contact me if anyone out there is interested in purchasing the car - otherwise it'll be going on eBay in the next couple of days. |
