The pipe location on the photo of the part seemed to be similar to mine, but the part itself was different due to my evaporator having a pipe union/ connector that comes off the matrix. Itís the connector that has the damaged thread, the actual matrix is undamaged. Again the connector is even harder to find than the whole unit - very frustrating

Hi Dante
I was hoping to make Spring Alfa Day, but today heard from the Evaporator supplier from Italy and the part they have is for a left hand drive car. Like everyone else they dont have a right hand drive one available.
Iíve asked Nathan at Clover Breakers if he can help, but it will be difficult to track down a used part due to the corrosion of the fittings.
Itís something I donít want to do at the moment, but I may have to scrap the air con. I will see whatís on offer over the next few weeks

Hi All
On the home straight now, had to change the springs as the standard KYB front springs where way too high, changed them to Eibach pro kit and they look great.
Brake lines now completely replaced and ready to bleed, as is the clutch slave so hopefully no leaks!!!!
Putting in rear seat and the two front seats tomorrow, once thatís done the battery can go in and I can check that there are no warning lights (they were not on before I started) but it is an Alfa so anything is possible.

Welding isnt my strong point, but now would be a good time to practice.
Problem is my brother is a panel beater and an excellent welder and fabricator, so it makes sense to let him do it properly.
When he's finished you wont even be able to see where the new metal was welded in.

Hi 145man - where are you based, and does your brother want any more work???

Iíll need similar work doing on my 145 before long... let me know!

Wow-

that looks really ace 145man!

That's some paint job in the end- have you machine polished it, since the work..?

I must say; I really admire the standard look and the interior- it looks like you could have 'just' bought it from the showroom!

Yes, that really does look like a brand new car - and done so quickly, too! Amazing.

What happened about the aircon - were you able to repair it in the end?

(And FYI still interested in your bro's welding skills - PM me if that's easier...)

Hi All
Thanks for the comments, the air con needs to be recharged properly, I did try some Halfords regas stuff I had left over but it not designed to charge a system from empty. What I did put in stayed in so Iím hopefull but realistic.
My Brother is an excellent welder and fabricator, and without doubt if it wasnít for him this car would have be broken for parts and scrapped. Also the preparation he did before it went to the paint shop was outstanding.
As I said the results speak for themselves, the car really does look like new.
